CBR Secretary (remission & drawback) Mohammad Asghar Khan, in a letter to the DTRE collector concerned, observed that the CBR has received several complaints regarding delay in issuance of DTRE approvals.
He directed the DTRE collectors concerned to ensure that DTRE approval cases are disposed of within the minimum possible time period in accordance with the law and procedure.
The action was taken on a plea made by the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) that the DTRE approvals should be issued to the garment exporters within 24 hours so that production in garment factories is not hampered.
Prgmea Central Chairman Bilal Mulla, in a letter to the CBR, said that through an amendment the duty-free import of fabrics has been excluded from SRO. 410 and the garment exporters have been advised to use the DTRE system for duty-free import of fabrics. He, however, pointed out that it had been observed that the issuance of DTRE approvals take several days, therefore, he urged the CBR to direct the DTRE officials to issue approvals within 24 hours days so that garment export production is not disturbed due to delay in clearance of fabrics and the export delivery schedule.
Bilal Mulla thanked the CBR chief for taking timely action on Prgmea's request and appreciated the CBR's prompt response to the exporters grievances.-PR
